Report: US govt warns Turkish firms of sanctions for trade with Russia
ANKARA, Oct 21 (PRIME) -- A delegation of the U.S. government visited Turkey on Thursday to warn local businessmen of sanctions for trade with Russia, newspaper Dunya reported on Friday, citing sources in Ankara.
According to the newspaper, acceleration of Russia's foreign trade through Turkey as a transit hub outraged the West and after a June letter the U.S. government delegation warned the business during the visit.
Besides, according to Turkey's statistics authority, the number of new companies with Russian capital quadrupled to 729 in January–August, while exports to Russia rose by 43% in January–September to more than U.S. $5 billion. Imports to Turkey from Russia soared by 125% to more than $45 billion.
The sanctions will be imposed for contacts with firms with more than 75% Russian capital or those affiliated with the Russian oligarchs.
The newspaper said that non-tariff barriers on Turkish trucks started to be imposed to limit the flow of goods to Russia.
